daily life

Written by admin on February 19th, 2010

been riding bikes to school with Jim every day which is good for my fitness. He got star student of the week for being a good learner!! how cute. My nephew and his girlfriend have been visiting on and off for a couple of weeks now. Also my friend Marni came to visit from Byron Bay-god knows why anyone would ever leave that place! The Bamboos gig at St Kilda festival was quite successful I think. Huge crowd although their behaviour was mainly questionable and if it wasn’t for backstage passes I wouldn’t be wasting a perfectly good sunday queueing with drunk teenagers for absolutely everything. Festivals used to be fun-you could drink for a start! There’s way too many rules for everything these days-mostly for the lowest common denominator, with whom every festival is chocka block! Anyway old folks like me really should just stay home!! Playing in South Yarra tonight with Cookin on 3 burners at Red Bennies. Should be fun.

March 27th Saturday at 9pm, I have a gig coming up for my solo stuff-songs from JUST SAY and MADE OF STONE. It’s kind of the start of a new era for me. I wanted to wait til Jimi was in school and now he is so the ball has started rolling! That will mean I’m in 3 bands which may really be too much. But my solo stuff is just starting out at the bottom really so Cookin and Bamboos gigs will still be a big part of my life. Obviously the music on both albums involves really big bands(ie the bamboos and added extras) and I want to step away from this and try to scale it back. Lance and I have done a few gigs with just vocals and guitar which worked ok so the songs are strong enough. Just need to shake it up a bit!A new physical and maybe mental challenge-to get a big sound out of a smaller band!

The gig will be at PENNY BLACKS in Sydney rd Brunswick.

Nothing exciting to report-except thatmy nephew is coming from NZ tomorrow. Next big gig is BAMBOOS at st kilda festival Feb 14.
tru thoughts is needing a 3rd kylie album this year. A daunting task for my year of introspection and coherence!
Check out the Bamboos website for cool new reviews and info.
Glad the festive season is over-nearly did myself an injury with all that drinking and eating!Need a break and some serious exercise.
And I need to put up all my pics of Jim’s first day at school
a mile stone indeed

happy new year!!

well it’s nice to make it through to another year. 2010 is showing signs of promise. New remixes of tracks from MADE OF STONE are out on tru thoughts now – it on the tt web site.

Had a lovely swim at Neilson Park beach today with a million other people.Speaking of a million people Al Greene is playing at the opening of the Sydney Festival tonight and I would have braved the crowd were it not for the fact that Felix Hayley and I are going to see him in melbourne on Thursday and we’re sitting in the 5th row !!! Oh dear how horrid my life is!!Well now I must  go out in Newtown to a Japanese restaurant with my lovely brother and sister in law,Ben and Toni. Then I’m thinking maybe drinks with Luc and go to Tonic to see Lanu and Flevans burning up the decks! As you may have noticed I’m in Sydney. Flew up last night because i’m singing with the BAMBOOS at the DAYS LIKE THIS  festival tomorrow at 1pm.

Had a perfect holiday in Hay and I’m going back ASAP! and i just heard that Marni is in Sydney so that’s wicked news and thanks to PHIL NOY from the BAMBOOS she is coming to the show tomorrow! yeehaa!

Saw our friends Dick and Sarah today and their beautiful boy Clarence! Finally! gotta go out bye….

what else is news…

I went to a spin class the other day-on that 39 c day, and they were playing SOUL II SOUL and i remembered that i absolutely love Caron Wheeler-is that how you spell it? Back to Life is one of the all time best songs in the whole world. I wish i’d remembered to play it on Sarah Howells show. But i did play a lot of chick singers. And what’s the name of the chick who used to sing with C&C music factory? Was that Carleen Anderson? Anyway i love her too! So today i braved the crowds and the elements and actually did some christmas shopping. Heaps of crap nobody really wants but i wouldn’t want them to think i wasn’t thinking of them! Oh that reminds me i need to order some cards from the tear catalogue, you know the goats and toilets ones? and i will definitely stock up on some BIG ISSUE CHRISTMAS CALENDERS for people who i know for a fact have too much! So tomorrow night is the big BAMBOOS gig at the ESPY. I don’t have a new dress which bores me. But it’s Lance’s birthday so nobody will notice my dress. The next gig is on December 28th at the FALLS FESTIVAL which is always lovely. It’s nice to be actually able to sit and write something because it seems every waking hour is jam packed with things i have to do and visitors or visiting. So many opportunities to eat and drink too much and absolutely no will power. Now my friend Lyn has told me i must link things to this blog and i don’t know how to but i’m going to try! wish me luck….back soon!

i haven’t written anything for a long time-i have been trying to write lyrics for a couple of tracks, have recently done the pbs benefit gig at the corner which was a blast. Thanks to the band for doing the gig.  Life is fine and i can’t wait to go see WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE at the drive in! Reggie finishes school soon lucky thing. no doubt he will spend most of his holidays sleeping!

the BAMBOOS are playing at the espy on dec 18th in the gerswhin so that should be fun-going thu the tunnel now gotta go,,,,,,………….too late lost connection!! in a train full of wet kids-it’s raining which is nice for the world!the rain i mean not the kids….

I’m singing at summadayze with dj MIKE GURRIERE!! should be wicked fun-apparently it’s in the VIP tent. The BAMBOOS are also doing the FALLS FESTIVAL on janurary 28th. It’s all getting a bit much security wise and you can’t even drive in there these days. I feel that festivals are not really peace and love type parties anymore-more just money making queueing activities. With lots of security watching your every move. Maybe i’m just old!! Then we go to sydney for january 10 for DAYS LIKE THIS. There’s alot of bands and djs that i wanna check out there for sure.

and breathe in…

that feels good,i don’t think i drew breath until the show was over! But it all went remarkably well! The band truly shone, and Reggie didn’t forget a thing      and strangely neither did I. Well that’s not true-I forgot to mention that it was Ella Thompson’s 20th birthday after 12, and sing her happy birthday. Ella held the whole show together, providing the support band with Phil Binotto an Aaron Mendoza. Then she sang beautiful harmonies with me and helped Reggie through his trial by fire!! There were so many familiar faces at the gig for which i was so grateful,it definitely helped with my nerves! The folks at the East Brunswick hotel were extremely kind and helpful as well and made us up a makeshift bandroom. It would have been funny to see 13 people fit into the phone booth sized back room. We only had to cut one song off the set list-I will.Other than that the show went pretty much as planned. Lance did so much work for the show and his vision paid off! Thanks to everyone who came and bought cds!

Next day was a great recovery-bbq at home. I think i’ve finally come back down to earth! wow what a blast-and thanks to my mum for my dress!!xx

the time has come!

ok i’ve always been a bit of a stress head but levels are running high today cos it’s the day of my MADE OF STONE launch-IT’S ON!! so many songs and a lot that have never been played live before! also my baby boy Reggie is singing backing vocals with Ella thompson so I’m panicking a bit there in case he forgets what’s going on! Although to be fair there’s probably more chance of me forgetting than him!! Had a great gig with cookin on 3 burners at the espy last night. it’s always good after tours cos we know all our stuff!

Mum is visiting for the launch and all the family are turning up in dribs and drabs so it’s gonna be a good time -in the words of the black eyed peas TONIGHTS GONNA BE A GOOD GOOD NIGHT!!!

and back to the mundane…

Written by admin on October 13th, 2009

It’s been back to work in the jewellery shop for me, thank goodness for Janet and her fabulous lunches!! Although in other news Brett and I are going to see Elvis Costello tonight-I spent 3 hours last night looking for the tickets which I put in a ’safe’ place before i went on tour!! hmmm what a waste of a night. Wednesday night we fly to Sydney to meet my newest sister in law Lori and her kids.

I’ve been listening to my own albums a lot lately in an effort to prepare myself for the launch, and it can be quite embarrassing getting caught listening to yourself sing!!How self absorbed! Lots of friends and family are coming to town for  the launch so that’s exciting.

I have been in touch with my sister Angie in NZ and it seems most of our relatives in Samoa are ok which is good but so awful for all the others.Ill be doing a few benefit gigs in November for that cause .

Off into the city now ….
